It's difficult to understand the size of Colorado until you spend time traveling through the various sections of the Rocky Mountains.  The state holds thousands of peaks over 11,000 feet.  Most of these peaks are found in the major mountain ranges.  But Colorado has many other ranges - large and small.  The Gore Range, Mummy Range, Flat Tops, and others contain peaks over 12,000 feet in height - but no 14ers.  14ers can only be found in the following ranges:

Range (click for a peak list) Number of 13ers Number of 14ers
Front 76 6
Tenmile 11 1
Mosquito 26 4
Gore 32 -
The Flat Tops - -
Sawatch 141 15
Sangre de Cristo 84 10
San Juan Mountains 315 12
Elk Mountains 52 5

Totals:

737 53  (plus 5 "unofficial" 14ers)

3D Representations of the Colorado Mountains
On this image, vertical exaggeration and color have been used to make the mountains stand out. This image was generated using a satellite photo taken after the first Colorado snowfall in late 2002.
