From Denver drive southwest on US-285 towards Pine Junction. 4.4 miles after Pine Junction turn right on County Road 43 (Deer Creek Road). Drive 8.3 miles to the Deer Creek Campground, then another 0.8 miles to the Deer Creek Trailhead.
Start the hike by the sign Photo #1 at the west end of the parking lot. A wilderness permit is required to hike in this area, please fill out the permit and keep it with you while hiking. Follow the trail to the first junction Photo #2 Stay right on the Rosalie/Tanglewood Trail. Continue up the trail and you will come to another junction with the Rosalie Trail, again stay right on the Tranglewood Trail. Soon you’ll reach tree line where there is a grove of bristlecone pines just below the saddle of Rosalie and Pegmatite Points. Photo #3 Rosalie will be to the West (Left side) Photo #4 and Pegmatite Points will be to the East (Right side) Photo #5 once you gain the saddle. Leave the trail and continue west up the gentle east ridge of Rosalie. Photo #6
From the summit of Rosalie, continue North to “Epaulie”. Photo #7 There are a few good scrambles up to the summit.
Once on top of “Epaulie”, Epaulet Mountain can be seen to the North in front of Mount Bierstait and Mount Evans. Photo #8 Continue North to Epaulet Mountain. Once on Epaulet Mountain there are great views of Bierstait and Evans. Photo #9
