Birds fluff up in the cold to trap as much warm air in their feathers as possible. They also look more intimidating! :)

Yes! We had a turkey in the backyard for a while last year that was double the size during the colder days, at quick glance in the low morning light the big black shape looked like a small bear.
Unfortunately I think my neighbor shot it on opening day for Turkey season.

We frequently have elk coming up from Trail Canyon to graze with the cattle.

I saw an injured peregrine falcon by the road this morning.
The osprey and peregrine languages are closely related and I was able to coax it into my car and take it home where it will be safe until the Department of Wildlife is able to pick it up. It has a broken right wing but hopefully it can be rehabilitated and resume it’s flying.
