There are currently 5 proposals to rename Mount Evans; which do you favor?

1 - Mount Blue Sky : While the Arapaho clearly have ties to the land, this particular name has no historic ties to the mountain itself; the Arapaho people are commonly called the Blue Sky People, but this leaves out the Cheyenne people.

2 - Mount Cheyenne-Arapaho : Again, the Cheyenne and Arapaho have ties to the land, but this name that has no historic ties to the mountain itself; and unfortunately, this name will likely be shortened just like the CU-Boulder dorm of the same name to: Chey-Ho.

3 - Mount Evans : Rededicate for Anne Evans, who climbed the mountain, lived nearby, and donated her extensive Native American Art collection to the Denver Art Museum, making it the first US art museum to collect Native American Art; rededicating for Anne Evans would make it the only 14er named for a woman. Read more about her here: https://www.cogreatwomen.org/project/anne-evans/

4 - Mount Rosalie : This was the only known name of the mountain before it was changed to Evans in 1895, but it would require the nearby peak of same name to also be changed. Renaming it Rosalie would make it the only 14er named for a woman.

5 - Mount Soule : This name has no historic ties to the mountain itself; this honors Silas Soule, who should be commemorated and probably is at the Sand Creek site; read more about him here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silas_Soule

6 - None of these.

Here's a nerdy explanation. Unfortunately, many of the links are broken.
I’ve seen that guideline and understand. However, I think one can look at a lot of names and see where that was not followed. Prime example is Pikes. Mount Pikes does not have the alliteration pizzaz that Pikes Peak does and my guess is that was the or part of the “historical” reason it was chosen.

CheapCigarMan wrote: Thu Mar 17, 2022 6:38 am This work would be farmed out. I know a sign company that does a lot of this work for Counties and the State.

It’s amazing to me how people think the government has this unending supply of cash and resources. With seemingly no understanding of where these dollars come from, the number of programs we expect the government to manage, and if that budget is in surplus or in a deficit.
One counterintuitive thing: government deficits grow the economy, surpluses shrink it. Think about it. When the govt spends money, it is effectively an investment in its people. Certain types of spending give huge returns bc they improve society and grow the economy (education, scientific research), which increases tax revenue. Almost any spending will be beneficial (perhaps creating a few jobs at a sign company). If the government is running a surplus, that means they are taking more in taxes than they are investing back into the economy, which isn't beneficial at all. Deficit spending is fine as long as the investment will return more than is put in, which is a very safe bet in a nation like the us. Govt surplus is basically money sitting around doing nothing, which is why it should be avoided. Deficit spending is a great way to influence the market to do something actually socially beneficial, which is why every single nation on the planet does it.
No they do it because its easy. If we as individual people, could get away with spending more money then we make, with no consequences, we would all do it too. I'd love to buy a million dollar mountain house if I didn't have to actually pay for it.

bump for the big hearing going on today.

i stand by the name change people on this one. and the gore reboot too.

but here's a thought - will the board decide today that a name change is warranted - but then not actually official change the name today?

because in that case - if I get up there this weekend as planned - I will at that moment be climbing a mountain with no name!

that's pretty sick.

also - maybe this one is too big for the honor - but i do feel we should have a mount elway in this state. I mean come on.

Keep looking up - Jack Horkheimer
