Landslide Peak
Condition Updates
Route: From Montezuma

Info: Parked at 10,400' right after the first turn on CR 264. There's room for about 3 maybe 4 cars there. Overall the hike is pretty straight forward making quick work up the road to below Santa Fe. Nice ridgeline walking all the way to Webster Pass since it is all CDT. I could've cut down right after Landslide but I had time, good weather, and wanted 13,205. Between Geneva and Landslide is less than 100' while there is about 200' between Landslide and 13,205' (almost the same height as Landslide) so it actually feels like another peak. After getting to Webster Pass it was 5.5 miles of road walking back to to the car. Got passed by probably 20-25 vehicles before I got back to the car. (14.65 mi; 4,012' gain; 6:00:14 total time) Start at TH 5:45am; Santa Fe Peak 7:45am; Sullivan Mountain 8:10am; Geneva Peak 8:45am; Landslide Peak 9:05am; 13,205 9:35am; Back to TH 11:45am

Info: Snowfield between Geneva and the Landslide saddle, mostly firm enough with a couple postholing, so I could see my reflection in the snow covered hills. Can be avoided by dropping lower. Windy. Didn't do the loop through webster pass since I parked high. But it looked dry.

Info: Put on snowshoes partway up the road to Santa Fe (might almost be packed enough now to not need them) and left them on until the summit of Santa Fe, though walked over a few rock stretches and lots of snow that wasn't deep enough to actually need them. Just had boots going from Santa Fe to Sullivan to Geneva to Landslide but had to do a lot of kick stepping around Geneva and probably should have put my spikes on. On the way back wore microspikes till I got back to the road down Santa Fe then switched back to snowshoes. Stayed basically ridge proper the whole way which got spicy around Geneva (allegedly there's a trail off to the side - I neglected to research in advance and didn't spot on obvious trail). Also, a light touch of my hand on the ridgetop near Geneva dislodged an enormous arrowhead shaped rock that snapped one of my trekking poles like a twig. These are minor 13ers (2 ranked, 2 unranked) with not yet a ton of snow but packed more of a punch than expected. Made for a 10 hour day (not counting 30min+ getting my Jeep stuck at the trailhead).

Info: Bring your own water - while this is a short enough outing that you likely won't need much, there is none available to filter above Montezuma. Route easy to follow after leaving the road thanks to CDT cairns and occasional trail segments. Smoke was noticeable but mild early on, seemed to be getting worse as the morning went on. Was more short-winded than is typical for me on thirteeners this low (all are under 13,299'), currently have a mild sore throat and sinus inflammation. Extra caution recommended if you've got allergies/asthma/etc.
