Info: Climbed Culebra and Red today. They are letting people park at the 4 way now, the upper trailhead is still blocked by some drifts. The snow was super solid in the morning and I only needed microspikes. The last mile or so on the descent, things got soft and I was postholing waste deep even with snowshoes, but it is melting fast. However the snow stayed pretty solid on the ridge. Most snow is avoidable on the ridge and all the way to red mountain. A lot of the postholing can be avoided by being creative and taking a longer route around the snow field. Also a lot of the snowfield can be quickly glisaded down to make the descent much faster and avoid some postholing. Took my micros off after the initial climb to the large cairn. Didnt put on my snowshoes until the last mile or two on the decent.

Info: Road is packed down very well from the Ranch using snowmobiles. From the 4 way to the tree line the trench is in and we did not need snowshoes until climbing out of the tree line. Then ditched the shoes at the top of that 1st ridge. We had no view for Culebra, and we only able to see where we were after coming back over from Red. Our total time was 10 hours on the dot. Info: No snow on route from Culebra. Some below the ridge-line but easy enough to avoid when skirting around the first bump. Poles helped on the way up/down with the loose dirt/rocks.

Info: Not of great significance, and a bit late for the hiking season of the "pay to play" peaks, but the register container (on Red) is empty. I took the soaking wet one down since it was useless. However I did not put another register of any kind back. Maybe next year, or this winter (?) someone can put some paper in it! The tube on Culebra was busted too, but I forgot to grab it and pack it out. Maybe Uwe did? Conditions of the mountain were summertime fine. The weather made for an interesting ascent, as we tried to find the summits!
