"Medano Peak"
Condition Updates
Route: From Mount Herard with descent of Point 12,883
Posted On: 2020-06-15, By: supranihilest
Info: Dry all up and down the peak. Some loose rock on ascent from the Herard/Medano saddle and some on the north ridge descent towards 12,883. Super neat rock up 12,883 but nothing harder than Class 2. We descended 12,883's east ridge for a ways then went straight south, staying on the east/descender's left side of a trickling drainage. The descent was steep and covered in loose pine needles but not bad and took us right to the trail.
Route: Medano lake TH

Info: First 1.5 miles of Medano lake trail varies from calf deep sugar to bare. Broke trail before I veered right up ridge of 12883 to access Medano.... Plan on breaking trail in shady areas if you continue up to Medano lake...the saddle above lake is clear...Mostly clear above treeline everywhere (including south faces of crestones)....below treeline is patchy unless you're on ENE facing slopes. Came down SE ridge off 12925 to avoid majority of steep sugar snow ...4wd up Medano pass was essential

Info: Remaining snow generally avoidable, except for one short stretch on a flat area. Water is very high, so count on getting feet wet.
