Road Difficulty

2WD, easy dirt road 1   (0=Paved, 6=Very Difficult 4WD)

Driving Directions

From Main Street in Breckenridge, turn east on Wellington which is just north of the Main St./Lincoln stop light. Follow Wellington through a residential area with tons of stop signs. Continue on Wellington to dirt and past mines. After approximately 4 miles from Main Street, there's a marked parking area on the right with signs that ask you not to continue up the road. This is the trailhead. There's a gate shortly after the trailhead.

Winter Access

Usually open in winter.

Info: Trailhead shows up on Google Maps as Sallie Barber Mine Trailhead. Coordinates are 39.48638, -105.98067
Don’t put in simply "French Gulch" in Google Maps - takes you to the wrong place. But "French Gulch Trailhead" automatically brings up Sallie Barber Mine Trailhead which gets you to the right spot.
Btw, sign says no overnight parking or camping.

Info: Road is dry and clear all the way to the TH, lots of runoff in the afternoon although. 2wd cars with decent tires should have no issue at all.

Info: FYI - If you are coming from the north on CO 9, you can turn left on Huron (at the gas station with the 7-Eleven), then take a right after maybe 1/2 mile onto Reiling (just before Huron takes a hard left and becomes Forest Hills). Reiling has a few speed humps, but no stop signs until the junction with Wellington/French Gulch. Take a left there and follow to the trailhead.

Info: Packed snow/ice. Pretty flat. Easy 2WD today and I would think it would be the same most days.

Info: Easy 2WD dirt road. There are a lot of residences up beyond the parking area, so I would imagine it‘s kept pretty well plowed.
