This is a relatively easy hike except for the distance. For a flat lander like me that is 60 and 30 lbs overweight, the 12 miles really kicked my butt.

The immediate climb is steep with almost 1,000 foot climb in the first mile. Once you reach the top, you can see San Luis dominating the area.

After dropping 400 feet to the creek, The next 3 miles are a pretty level hike that is beautiful and easy. You hike around 2 valleys and it is a great walk. Total climb in those 3 miles is about 600 feet.

After leaving the CDT trail to ascend San Luis, it is a very rocky trip up with a couple false peaks. At the top, final walk to the peak is a bit narrow and that was a surprise with fall offs on both sides of some long and steep slopes. The path is 8-10 feet wide so it is not a problem, just a surprise as I had not read that before.

The hike back is nice but after the creek you do have to climb back up and after 12 miles, that was hard for this old man.
