Shavano - Standard Route via Blank Cabin 6/12

Summitted Shavano yesterday. Camped at Blank Cabin Trailhead the night before and started off around 6am. The trail crossed a few snowfields above treeline but for the most part the snow could be avoided. Once above treeline the wind was gusting quite hard. The weather became awful - the wind was violently blowing snow and ice around and I had to climb to the top of Shavano on icy rocks, moving only when the wind gusts let up for a moment. I saw two others summit and many others who turned back. Due to the very poor visability and wind, my planned trip over the ridge to Tabeguache wasnt possible. The weather cleared for a bit when I began my decent but soon it started snowing even harder. I used my gaiters for a short time, but they werent necessary. All that is needed for this trip right now is lots of warm, windproof clothing. All in all, not the best day to climb, and I am glad I will have to come back to do Tabeguache so I can see what the view looks like from the top.
