 Perfect Weather

My buddy Jesse and I took a crack at Blanca Peak over the weekend (6/3/22-6/5/22) and what a beautiful weekend! We drove down from to the Lake Como trailhead Friday after work, climbing a lifted diesel 4x4 (which some of you may recognize as the blue truck stuck a couple hundred yards shy of the Grey's Peak trailhead in March, had a skid steer pull me out that time) to a switch back at about 10,200 feet, shortly before Jaws 1 ( I suggest unless you have rock crawler to stop here.) We ate some dinner at the truck, ditched our snowshoes, pickets and rope and started hiking the remaining three-ish miles around 10 pm to Lake Como. We set up camp at Lake Como at around 2 am and got some beauty rest before the push. Waking up to the views surrounding Lake Como after arriving via headlamp was an absolute treat, and we got to see full view of what was ahead of us for the day. Realizing the complete lack of snow we left our crampons behind but brought our axes and micros just in case. we never used the micros, however I found my axe helpful on the ridge leading up to the summit where there a few snow patches. Jesse did not use his on the way up, however we both were very happy to have them help keep our balance on our decent. Over all, gorgeous weekend with very little traffic. I was perfectly comfortable in windproof pants, thermal shirt under a T-shirt, with a wind shell for the summit. My merino socks were too hot!

View from Lake Como.
Looking up towards the saddle, a climber can be seen to the low left.
These were the spots the axe came in hand.
From the summit!
