Huron via Clear Creek (Winfield) June 11 2005

If anyone has a 4wd with plenty of air underneath it that they need removed, call me... Was planning on a quick 5 mile rt jaunt up Huron this morning however the last bit of road up to the trailhead changed my plans to a 10 miler instead due to my lacking in the clearance department. Not a huge fan of walking on roads and so far my old Volvo has managed to get me up the jeep roads, but today, alas, not. Oh well, once on the very nice Mt Huron trail life was good. Two large snowfields, both still frozen solid in the wee hours of the morning (left Winfield at 5:21am, summited at 8:27am, got sidetracked on the way up getting pictures of the many waterfalls in the area) and one providing excellent time on the hike down thanks to very slippery snowpants (weeeeee). There was a little bit of a snow dusting on the last part of the trail at the top making the initial part of the descent somewhat on the sliding side. Clear sky and some of the best views around. Very picturesque overhang on the peak, sure dont want to be around when it goes.
